Apple TV Ads

I don't know if any one has seen these Apple TV Ads that are being displayed, but up here in Canada, were all getting a pretty good laugh. If you have not seen these already, your in for something special.

My Views:

Pretty good fake impression of Bill Gates I must say. Sure makes him look like a doorknob.

I'm sure when Bill sees the ads, he'll just cry.

Sure makes you want to buy a Mac, to bad there not in the affordable range.
Oh will one can always dream -sigh-

Oblivion vs BattleField2

If your into gaming like I am, you might have heard a lot about the system requirements for Oblivion being very high. While looking at Battle Field 2, there requirements are not so high. When I bought Oblivion for my computer I was hoping that it would run will with my Sapphire X700. Surprisingly it ran much better than I thought that it would with my low end computer. I had it it set 1024 by 786, all settings maxed with anti aliasing 4x on. I must admit sometimes when singing you mouse around fast, it freezes just a bit, but really no other problems than that. When you compare battlefield 2 settings, they are a lot less, and in order to get it to function smoothly you must set the resolution to 1024 by 768 with A.A. on 2x with settings not so high. Then it will run at an acceptable rate.

So why on earth can I run oblivion so will especially with such higher requirements and not my battlefield 2 game?

-weird-

Over The Hedge

Over The Hedge

I just this saw movie in the theater, and it was great. You might be thinking that this is just a little kid movie but us older ones can greatly enjoy it just as much. It was very hilarious and amusing for people of all ages. The animation is great and extremely realistic and makes you feel like your part of the action. There were lots of great jokes from the views from the animals about the human behavior. Its worth seeing, just for that.

This movie is a must see!

Although I must say, it seems like movies are getting shorter and shorter. Over The Hedge took just a little over the hour to view. Don't you remember the days when you would be sitting in the theater forever, now your in and then out also immediately.

Goggle Earth Gone Nuts?

Has Goggle gone nuts by updating their Satellite maps for Edmonton?
I was just checking it out again and looking at my city and noticed it updated it self
for the worse.

(click for larger)

I mean just check out this image of West Edmonton Mall, half of it is snow covered while the other half has no snow. I think I know there plan, they want every one to think we Canadians are Eskimos living in igloos. According to these updates, we do.

Now anyways, the main point of the post is think before you do anything.
Cause it applies to this situation here. Do you think your going to have great pictures if there is snow on the ground, and you can hardly make out any building. It doesn't take a Guinness to figure that out.

Please Note:
I am not trying to be critical of Google in any way, I just thought it was kind of funny, that they would update their maps during the winter.

Internet Radio

You can take advantage of having high speed by listening to online internet radio. There are thousands and thousands of stations to listen to, so it will never become dull. There is one particular radio station site called Live 365 it has the largest database of stations I have ever found. Although I am too cheap to go VIP and get Ad free, it is very descent site that has over 300 genres to listen to. Even if you have a wireless connection like I do, that only gives you only 5GB per month, it will still work lag free and does not consume very much bandwidth.

Who knows you might just turn a PC into a Jukebox, like I did.

OS Personality Quiz

As I was browsing the internet as usual, I came across the OS test. This is what I got. (Had to do it again because I got Win98:-))

You are Apple Dos. Simple and primitive with a good understanding of the common man. You're still a work in progress, but a good start.
Which OS are You?

Microsoft Can't Patch Flaw in Windows 98, ME

According to PcWorld
Microsoft is no longer supporting 98 even when critical security flaws are found.
This is greatly disturbs me. My older laptop runs 98 and only has 128MB of ram.
I tried putting XP on it but it ran to slow. Even with its completely dead battery and 128MB of ram I still use it a fair amount. If I can't upgrade to a new Windows OS or put the one and only Linux distribution I like on it (Ubuntu), What am I suppose to do? Just sit back and let my computer be hacker infested, I don't think so.

My Final Words!

Shame on you Microsoft!

This is just another reason I am not upgrading to Vista on my main machine! I sure hope you don't do the same with XP!

Google and a User Name

You have always heard about searching in peoples names and finding information about them in Google. Lets just say I tried that and did not get very far, until an Idea popped into my head. Why not type a screen name into google. My, My, My what have we here. Well basically an index of every site they or you have ever registered for. I went thru my user name search and basically found a lot of old Linux forum posts. Imagine finding out your bosses screen name and typing it in. I wonder what you might find? Isn't this an interesting way to get information about people.

I you do start to peer into peoples lives, be careful as it may not always be true.
But wouldn't that be interesting if you did find true stuff. Maybe you could get
a promotion, or get fired. Who Knows.

New Fire Fox Extension from Google

After visiting google labs to check out the newest things from them, I noticed a new extension for Fire Fox. It's called Google Browser Sync. A description on the site says:

"Google Browser Sync for Firefox is an extension that continuously synchronizes your browser settings ‚– including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers. It also allows you to restore open tabs and windows across different machines and browser sessions."

I read this and thought to myself, this will be good and bad.

The good:
I can see this being very use full for people who use different computers. As I do.

The Bad:
I ask myself, do I really want to have google remember all that information.
I could see this being a kind of a privacy issue here. I guess it is probably no worse than using them for your email.

Upshot:
I could really see this to be very useful but potential privacy concern will make me think twice before installing this.

Nintendo believes 'Wii' will grow on you

According to this new article.
This name Wii will grow on us.
My thoughts say I don't think so. When I see this name, the first thing
I think of is WWII even though there is not that extra W. Another
thing, how are people suppose to get "we" out of it. I can only see 'y.' The w and the two i's make a y sound to me. As if why did we call it this name.

Sorry Nintendo,
I really hate the name, revolution was much better.

Cool Free Game

A Great new, free game has arrived!
(well its been around for a little while)

Tremulous!

The game has basically two sides, the humans against the aliens,
or vice versa. Both sides have there advantages and disadvantages.
Although it is really is up to you to decide what team is better for you.

The mission of each team is to destroy a certain object to win, while
the other team defends. Also a note to point out, is that the game is completely
multiplayer and it sometimes takes a great amount of effort to win.
The player must think about a plan of action before proceeding
into the enemy base or they will likely be killed.

Anyways, I could really see this working well at Lan Party's, sense
there is no cost to the game and runs well on my old graphics card.

Also, the great part about the game is that it is open source
and runs on either Windows or Linux.

Don't think oh, just another dumb old free game,
it is actually very good and is worth a try.

Funny Flash Animation

My Friend showed me this funny Flash Animation the other day.
Even If you have not used Flash before it is still very enjoyable to watch.

I have to say I don't really know how to describe it.
Just watch and enjoy, is about all I can say.

Animator vs Animation

Linux Is Insecure?

According to Linux Watch, Linux is just as insecure as any other OS.

"All software is insecure"
-a quote from the article-

I believe them.
Why do you think Microsoft is always in the news about some virus, or security concern.
Is it because they are more insecure or just that probably about 90% of the population uses their operating system. When so few people use Linux compared to Microsoft, do you really think that the Newspaper is going to display a headline like this:

"Major Security Flaw in Linux!"

People will be inclined to read about an OS
that 90% of people use.

"New Virus destroys all Machines that Run Xp!"

Now having something like that, would make people read it.
No Newspaper is ever going to have a head line about Linux
having a security Flaw.

Even though all software is insecure, you are still better off using Linux though.

The Best Linux News Site

Even though I am not on Linux yet, I still check out this one Linux news site almost daily.

TuxMachines

It may not give my input or opinion about news articles like what I trying to do on this blog and intend on continuing. Although, I must say, TuxMachines is probably the most complete and fastest news gathering site, that I have ever encountered on the web. It always almost, has articles that I am interested in. The news may not be what your into, but this news site should have some interesting news article that almost anyone interested in technology, should enjoy.

I recommend that you check it out if your into Linux or Technology.
